In the last couple of years, we have seen quite a few multi-player mobile games getting popular all over the world. With the entry of Battle Royale games like PUBG Mobile and Fortnite, the developer also started eSports competitions just for smartphone gamers. Also, the manufacturers are trying to cash in on the craze by launching gaming smartphones. Last year, ASUS’s gaming-centric brand ROG debuted the smartphone market by launching the ASUS ROG Phone.
There are also a bunch of accessories announced to enhance the gaming experience. Now, the company is reportedly working the successor to ROG Phone. While there is no information on the exact launch date, the ROG Phone 2 might be unveiled in the Q3 2019. Just like the first-gen ROG Phone, there are chances that the company will first showcase its new gaming smartphone at the upcoming Computex 2019 which is scheduled to be held from May 28th to June 1st in Taipei, Taiwan.
ASUS will also partner with Tencent, publisher of PUBG Mobile, to promote the device among the smartphone gamers. It is also expected to come with a premium price tag. FYI, the original ROG Phone was priced at Rs 69,999 in India. It came with a 6-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) resolution and offered 90Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time. The device is powered by 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform coupled with Snapdragon X21 LTE modem.
It also sports vapor-chamber to keep the device at an optimal temperature. There is a 12MP + 8MP dual camera setup on the rear with 120-degree wide-angle view and an 8MP selfie camera on the front. The device is backed by a 4,000mAh non-removable battery and supports 20W ASUS HyperCharge technology. As seen other gaming-centric smartphones, the ROG Phone also came with ultrasonic AirTriggers on the side edges which can be customized as per the game.
With the ROG Phone, ASUS also introduced Aura RGB lighting with Aura Sync support for the first time on any smartphone. The upcoming ROG Phone 2 will also continue to come with the latest and greatest specifications. Under the hood, we might be seeing the 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset.
