Google introduced its own cloud-based gaming service called Stadia at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) held in San Francisco. Along with the Stadia gaming platform, the company also announced its own games studio called ‘Stadia Games and Entertainment’ for creating exclusive games. Google also launched the Stadia controller which directly connects to Google’s data centers through Wi-Fi. The Stadia gaming service will be released later this year only in the US, Canada, UK, and Europe.
Unlike on Xbox or Playstation network, the games on Stadia platform are compatible to play on smartphones, laptops, computers, and TVs. Talking about smartphones, the Stadia games are not only limited to Android OS. The Apple iPhones and iPads are also compatible for playing the 4K 60 fps games in HDR from Stadia. Later this year, the company will also compatibility for playing in 8K at 120 fps. While the company hasn’t announced the pricing, it only talked about how this tech works.
It also skipped talking about the latency but mentioned that it required high-speed internet connection. While the games will be played directly on Google’s hardware in their data centers, they will be streamed on to the user’s screen. Along with the newly announced Stadia controller, the games on Stadia platform can be played using existing hardware. As of now, the whole Stadia thing looks to futuristic, but it might make sense once 5G is rolled out globally. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details!
