Huawei’s CFO, Meng Wenzhou has been arrested in Vancouver, Canada on suspicion of violating US trade sanctions against Iran. Wenzhou is also the daughter of Huawei’s founder Reg Zhengfei; she has been under arrest in Canada upon the request of American law enforcement agencies as the Eastern District of New York alleges her for violation. The arrest made was made by Canadian law enforcement during switching flights in Vancouver.
According to a report from The Globe and Mail, Wenzhou is currently sought for extradition by the US, and there’s a bail hearing set to her on Friday, this week. The report further reveals that the specific charges about the arrest are yet to be known and Huawei also isn’t aware of any wrongdoings by Ms. Wenzhou and also believes the Canadian and US legal systems will ultimately reach to a conclusion.
Earlier this year, Huawei was set to launch their Mate 10 Pro smartphone with the collaboration by AT&T; however, AT&T had stepped back due to the intervention from US government. The intervention was due to the raised concerns on Huawei over the national security by the US law enforcement agencies.
