WhatsApp which is one of the biggest messaging services that is owned by Facebook is also used to make video calls and sending media like music, documents, photos and also the location of the user. Well, now that new year has started, WhatsApp has decided to stop its service to Nokia Series 40 phones as the support for those phones have been stopped on 31st of December 2018. Prior to this, the Symbian based S60 was also slashed in 2017 and many other Nokia feature phones followed.
On a blog post, WhatsApp has clearly mentioned that they will be supporting for smartphones that are running on Android 4.0 OS or above, Windows Phone 8.1 or above, iPhone running on iOS 8+ or newer along with JioPhone and JioPhone 2. On the blog post, it is also mentioned that the users will not be able to transfer their chat history between platforms which is bad news for who are planning to change to a newer platform.
Moreover, it is also mentioned that the user will only able to use one phone number on one device at a time to activate WhatsApp. It is also mentioned that Android versions 2.3.7 and older will stop receiving support after 1st of February 2020 and iOS 7 and older until the same time frame. This is because the developers will no longer be able to actively develop for these operating system and the users will be having issues with the functioning of the application any time.
JioPhone users will still be able to use the full services of WhatsApp until further notice. Whats can also be accessed from computers but the users need to connect the browser or application with their phone. Even since Facebook has taken over, the messaging service, we have seen many features like, Voice calling, Video calling, Live location sharing, WhatsApp payments, stickers and more that have made life easier for its users.
